The Benefits of Solar RV Panels
If you are an avid RV traveler like me, then chances are you have grappled with some of the same RV power issues that I have; RVs rarely come with enough battery power to support even the most basic of items in your RV. Once your batteries have run out, you are scrambling to find an RV park where you can plug in or you are cranking up the smelly and loud generator to recharge them. This is definitely not an optimal scenario in my mind. However, it does not have to be this way.
First let me say that I do not like to stay at RV parks. To me, RV parks negate the whole purpose of having and RV; getting away from others and having the freedom to travel when and where you want. Plus, RV parks are crowded. If I want to be 5 feet away from my neighbor I could have stayed home.
In order to stay away from RV parks and be able to stay wherever you want, even in the middle of nowhere, you need a reliable way to recharge your batteries. Preferably, this can be accomplished without having to run a generator. The last thing I want when I am sitting in the middle of a quiet field camping next to a pristine lake is to have to crank up a large fume spewing and obnoxiously loud generator.
So what is the answer? For me the answer came from solar RV panels. Admittedly, solar RV panels were just part of the overall answer; however, they were the backbone of my power solution. The entire solution consisted of a larger and properly sized battery bank for my RV, solar panels to keep my battery bank consistently charged each day, and an inverter to convert the DC battery power to AC electricity so that I could use all of the accessories that I wanted.
With this three tiered solution, I had all the power that I needed for almost all of my day to day power needs which included:
- Radio
- Lights
- Fans
- Internet Satellite Dish, Wireless Router
- Laptop
- Flat Panel TV w/DirecTV Satellite
- Cell Phone Recharging
- RV Accessories such as the refrigerator & CO2 detector
- Etc, etc.
With this scenario, the only time that I had to run my generator was if I wanted to use the microwave or if I needed to turn on the air conditioner. So how do you create a solution such as this? The truth is that it will take a little planning, some money, and a bit of handiwork.
